Betsy Lagana (20th/21st Century) American, Linoleum Block Print. Titled "Seahorse at Sunrise". Surrealist linocut print of a seahorse in the darkness of the ocean, beneath a glorious sunrise over the waves. Signed lower right, dated 1973. Titled middle bottom. Numbered 3/25 lower left. Framed.

Betsy Lagana is an American artist and printmaker known for her evocative linoleum block prints and silkscreens, often created during the 1970s and 1980s. Her work blends whimsical and contemplative elements, with subjects ranging from animals to nature and abstract motifs. Notably, her 1971 block print “Sing”, featuring a bold lion, and the 1973 silkscreen “Young Corn” are hallmark examples of her style—playful yet crafted with a precise hand. Lagana’s pieces were also associated with Konglomerati Press, and she contributed to literary and commemorative broadsheets, including one for U.S. Poet Laureate Howard Nemerov. Her art continues to be available through personal platforms like her website and Etsy, reflecting her ongoing connection to printmaking and handmade craft.
