Balinese Folk Art Coin Figure, Painted Hand Wood & Metal Coins. Made from Kepeng coins, or Chinese coins, which date back from the 7th century. Originally used in commerce to replace barter, they were gradually phased out, and since have been used in Bali in the decorative arts and superstitious rituals, giving them the nickname “magic coins”.
