Artist Biography:
**Bakufu Ohno** (1888–1976), also known as Ono Bakufu, was a distinguished Japanese painter and printmaker renowned for his woodblock prints, particularly those depicting fish and nature scenes. Born in Tokyo, Ohno relocated to Kansai after the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. He gained recognition for his series "Dai Nihon Gyorui Gashu" ("Familiar Fishes of Nippon"), which highlighted his unique style of merging traditional Japanese techniques with a more surreal, modern approach. Ohno's works often featured detailed and colorful representations of animals and landscapes. Unlike many of his contemporaries, he did not fit neatly into the shin hanga or sosaku hanga movements, making his work distinctively timeless and cross-cultural.
