Audrey Grendahl Kuhn was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1929, and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from the University of Michigan’s College of Architecture and Design, where her work on geometric and abstract gradients was first recognized. While teaching art she continued to study, earning further degrees from Russell Sage College and the College of St. Rose in Albany, New York. During the 1980s she exhibited her serigraphs with intaglio embossing at Art Expo New York at the Jacob Javits Center, which gained her international fame. Throughout the 90s and 2000s she spent winter months in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she began pastel painting the people of Mexico and the vibrant landscapes there. Currently the artist is painting pastels of florals, still lifes, and landscapes of the northeastern United States, where she lives and works from a home studio in Maine.
