Attributed to Dino Martens (1894-1970) Italian, Vintage Murano Glass Candy Bowl. Whimsical swirled pattern of blues, yellows, reds, and greens, with scalloped edge.

Dino Martens (1894-1970) was an Italian painter and designer particularly noted for his glass work. He trained at the Accademia di Belle Arti and had his paintings exhibited at the Venice Biennale from 1924 through 1930. After serving in Italy’s African campaign in World War II, he became the artistic director of Aureliano Toso in Murano, the glassmaking heart of Venice. He remained there for many years producing many noted works using traditional Venetian techniques, and invented several original effects and “daring” asymmetric shapes prized for their difficulty of execution. His work is found in numerous museums throughout Italy.
