Armando Villagrán (1945–1995) was a self-taught Mexican painter, draftsman, and illustrator known for his neo-figurative style. Born in Mexico City, he developed a poetic visual language often compared to that of Paul Klee, using expressive lines, forms, and color to bridge regional Mexican themes with broader artistic expression. His diverse body of work includes oil paintings, watercolors, and mixed-media pieces, such as his surrealist watercolor Woman in Green Pants with Ship (1971), as well as serigraphs and prints like Verano (1977). Villagrán's art has been exhibited in galleries and sold at international auctions, earning recognition for its lyrical, introspective quality and placing him as a distinctive voice in contemporary Mexican art.
