Arlindo Mesquita (1924–1987) was a Brazilian figurative painter, draftsman, sculptor, and teacher known for his traditional style and rich representational work. Born in Arcoverde, Pernambuco, he began painting and sculpting as a self‑taught artist from the age of 13, later serving in the Brazilian Navy before settling in Rio de Janeiro, where he worked in advertising and exhibited frequently, including at the Salão Nacional de Belas Artes and the Salão Pancetti—the latter awarding him a travel prize to Paris in 1967. Mesquita’s body of work spans maritime scenes, portraits, and other compositions executed primarily in oil, reflecting both academic influences and a personal, observational approach to form and figure.
