Founded in 1854 by Aaron Lufkin Dennison, the Waltham Watch Company in Massachusetts pioneered mass-producing quality timepieces by combining specialized machinery with Swiss watchmaking expertise. Under the leadership of Royal E. Robbins, the company grew into a major manufacturer, producing over 15 million instruments powered by huge demand during the Civil War, the expansion of the American railroad, and World War II military contracts. Despite enduring repeated bankruptcies and corporate rebrandings over its long history, timepieces bearing the Waltham name continue to be produced and marketed today.
