Antique Mintons Porcelain Footed Platter. Also known as a tripod tazza, this piece was likely produced during the Victorian era, in the late 1860s. Striking turquoise colors complimented by excellent gilding and pearlescent balls all around the top edge. The three figures that curl off from the middle pedestal are stylized dolphins, and the triangular foot includes more turquoise. "1719" written on the underside.

Founded in 1793 by Thomas Minton in Stoke-upon-Trent, Mintons grew from a modest earthenware producer into one of Europe’s premier ceramic manufacturers during the Victorian Era. Through early partnerships, most notably with Joseph Poulson, the company expanded into bone china production, eventually building a dedicated china pottery plant in 1824. Mintons mastered a wide array of styles, seamlessly blending Rococo, Classical, Medieval, and Art Nouveau influences with diverse decorative techniques. Beyond tableware and sculptures, the firm established itself as a top producer of architectural ceramics, creating decorative tiles for prestigious landmarks like the Houses of Parliament and the U.S. Capitol Building. Family ownership guided the business through several name iterations for over a century until the mid-20th Century, with “Mintons Ltd” serving as the official corporate title from 1879 onward. Although the company operated independently until 1968, its historic Stoke-on-Trent facilities and dedicated museum were ultimately demolished in the 1990s and early 2000s following consolidation under Royal Doulton.
