Martin, Hall & Co. originating from a partnership formed in Sheffield in 1820 between Henry Wilkinson and John Roberts, evolved through various leadership changes before coming under the ownership of Richard Martin and Ebenezer Hall in 1854. Operating out of a Shrewsbury workshop with global showrooms, the firm manufactured award-winning sterling silver, electroplate, cutlery, and patented “Martinoid” items that were retailed across the British Empire. After participating in major international exhibitions and weathering decades of production, the company was severely impacted by World War I and ultimately went into liquidation in 1929. Frank Cobb & Co. subsequently acquired their assets and continued utilizing their patterns until discontinuing them in 1936.
