Antique Ink and Pen Writing Stand Caddy. Antique writing caddy with two cut crystal inkpots and ink pen. Top with depressions for holding inkwells and pens and shallow drawer, handle for easier carrying.

Size: 13 1/4 x 9 x 7 in. 

 

Traditional inkwell addies, small decorative containers designed to hold and preserve ink for writing, were essential tools from the 18th through early 20th centuries before the widespread use of fountain and ballpoint pens. Often crafted from materials like glass, porcelain, brass, or silver, these inkwells featured secure lids to prevent ink from drying out and frequently incorporated ornamental designs ranging from simple elegance to elaborate Victorian motifs. Some addies were integrated into desk sets with compartments for pens and sealing wax, serving both practical and aesthetic purposes. Today, antique inkwell addies are cherished by collectors and calligraphy enthusiasts as beautiful reminders of the art of traditional handwriting.
