Antique Indian Bronze Seated Gaensha Statue.
Bronze statue of the Hindu god Ganesha, seated in lotus position on pillow, holding an orb, an axe, and a length of rope.
Size: 4 1/4 x 3 1/2 x 3 in.
Ganesh, also known as Ganesha or Ganapati, is one of the most widely worshipped deities in Hinduism, instantly recognizable by his elephant head and pot-bellied human body. He is revered as the remover of obstacles, patron of beginnings, and god of wisdom, learning, and prosperity, making him central to rituals at the start of new ventures. Stories about his origins vary, but a common version tells that the goddess Parvati fashioned him from clay to guard her, and when Shiva unknowingly slew him, he restored the boy to life with the head of an elephant. Ganesh is beloved for his approachable, playful character as much as for his power, and his imagery—whether dancing, riding a tiny mouse, or holding sweet modaks—captures his role as a bridge between divine might and human joy.
