Antique German Fraureuth Porcelain Reticulated Lattice Basket. Hand painted floral and gilt decorations. The mark on the underside is a green crown-and-circle stamp with a set of orange words below: "Kunstabteilung" (Art Department), typically signaling higher-quality or artistic pieces, and "handgemalt" confirming the item features hand-painted decorations. Items bearing this specific art department mark are generally dated to around the 1920s, putting them right at the end of the company's life.

Founded in 1865 by Georg Bruno Foedisch and Arved von Römer, the Fraureuth Porcelain Factory (Porzellanfabrik Fraureuth AG) began as a small operation in a former wool-combing mill in Saxony. Over the next few decades the company earned international acclaim and multiple exhibition awards for its high-quality cobalt blue, gilded, and hand-decorated porcelain. By 1914 it had expanded into one of the largest porcelain manufacturers in the German Empire, employing around 1,500 workers and exporting goods worldwide. The post-World War I era marked the company’s golden age, during which it established dedicated art departments and specialized painting workshops in Dresden and Lichte. However, massive investments in immature tunnel kiln technology in 1923 resulted in widespread production defects, crushing financial losses, and ultimately bankruptcy in 1926. Today the factory’s legacy is preserved through two local German museums, while the former industrial site is occupied by a modern ball-bearing manufacturer.
