Antique English Doulton Lambeth Drunk Monks Ceramic Motto Jug. Classic Greek shape with a curved handle and wide flared mouth leading to a pouring space opposite the handle. There are four frolicking monks in relief on the main body, with the motto divided into the three open spaces between them: "There's many a slip - Twixt the cup - And the lip." Marked on underside.

Although the mainstream favored minimalism after the mid-20th century, certain elaborate examples from makers like Royal Doulton remain sought after by collectors, sustaining the tradition.
