Antique Decorated Powder Horn. Antique powder horn with incise decorated metal bands around mouth and body, with faceted red glass cabochon. Chain with six-petal hammered metal flower decorations, stopper tip with angelic finial.

Powder horns are historical containers, traditionally made from cow or buffalo horns, used to carry gunpowder for firearms during the 17th to 19th centuries. Lightweight, durable, and naturally moisture-resistant, they were essential gear for soldiers, hunters, and frontiersmen. Typically capped with wood or metal at each end and carried by a strap, powder horns often featured personalized carvings, maps, names, dates, or decorative motifs, making them both functional tools and folk art. They were especially common in colonial America and during the Revolutionary War era, symbolizing the resourcefulness and craftsmanship of early firearms culture. Today, they are valued as collectible antiques and tangible links to early American history.
