Antique Chinese Taoist Carved Gilt Wood Zhao Gongming Statue. These figures were often created for temple shrines, where the deity, known as the God of Wealth, would be placed to bring prosperity to the maker or presenter. The proud being with one arm raised high is depicted seated with a tiger at its side, and is carved from camphor wood with lacquer and gold leaf detailing. It likely dates from the Qing Dynasty, although similar styles were produced earlier. There is a hollow compartment in the back, for sacred texts or protective charms to be inserted. Small faded paper label on the underside. 

Condition: Loss to gilt and coloring, commensurate with age.
