Antique Brass Lucerne Lamp with Maintenance Tools. These lamps, which burned whale oil, were common in the 19th Century, and have four wick spouts around the reservoir. A ring at the top allowed it to be hung from somewhere to change the level of lighting, as well as a sturdy base so it could rest almost anywhere. Tools for maintenance including a snuffer, a wick trimmer, and two pieces for cleaning out the reservoir or spouts hang from chains at the top of the reservoir.
