Antique Abercrombie & Fitch Bronze Chelsea Clock, Thermometer, and Barometer. The hefty piece contains a clock with Roman numerals on the left side and a circle with the barometer on top and the thermometer on the bottom on the right, divided into two squares by the sturdy bronze and each with a protective lead crystal cover. The words "Abercrombie & Fitch Co. New York" and "Chelsea" are visible on the clock face. A moveable brace on the back allows it to stand at an angle on a desk or other surface.

Founded in 1892 by David Abercrombie and Ezra Fitch, Abercrombie & Fitch began as an elite Manhattan sporting goods store that famously outfitted icons like Charles Lindbergh. Despite its early success and an extravagant multi-story flagship store, a late-century financial decline led to the company’s bankruptcy and eventual closure in 1977. The brand experienced a dramatic rebirth after Limited Brands purchased it in 1988 and brought on Mike Jeffries as CEO in 1992. Jeffries fundamentally revolutionized the company’s identity, pivoting away from outdoor gear to establish a highly profitable, preppy, and hyper-sexualized teen fashion empire. While this strategy initially fueled massive international expansion and spawned spin-offs like Hollister, it eventually sparked severe public backlash due to the CEO’s exclusionary marketing and controversial comments regarding body types. Following these controversies and a changing economic climate, the brand adjusted its strategy and ultimately closed numerous major global flagship locations by 2021.
