Anthony Cardon (1772–1813) was a Flemish-born engraver who made his career in England and became one of the foremost practitioners of stipple engraving and printmaking in his era. Born in Brussels, he came to London in the early 1790s, studied at the Royal Academy Schools, and worked in collaboration with the prominent print publisher and gallery dealer Colnaghi & Co.. Cardon produced a large body of work including book illustrations, historical engravings, and portraits — among them engravings after major artists and likenesses of contemporary figures such as monarchs and political leaders. He was especially known for his skill in rendering subtle tones and textures through stippling and aquatint, which gave his prints a refined delicacy. His work was widely published, exhibited, and collected, and remains represented in major institutions such as the National Portrait Gallery, London and other museum print collections.
