This is a figurative oil and gouache on canvas by Andre Lanskoy, a Russian painter born in Moscow who moved to St. Petersburg in 1905 and then to Kiev in 1918. He was an aristocrat who fought in the White Army during the Russian Revolution, then moved to Paris in 1921. His early works were inspired by Van Gogh and Matisse, and in the 1930's he gave up figurative painting for abstract work. His abstract works were influenced by Klee and Kandinsky. The canvas is correctly signed in the lower left, and based on the canvas type, it was probably done in the 1940's - 1960's. The overall size is 30 3/4 x 24 3/4 in. wide and the sight size is 21 3/8 x 17 5/8 in. wide.
