American Sterling Silver Schofield Co. Plate Circa 1930 - 13.055 ozt. The Schofield Silver Company, founded in 1903 in Baltimore by Frank M. Schofield, became known for its finely crafted sterling silver flatware and hollowware, most notably the Baltimore Rose pattern. Schofield, who trained at Gorham and worked for the Baltimore Sterling Silver Company, brought a high level of artistry and craftsmanship to his own firm. Over the years, the company operated under several names, including Heer-Schofield and The Schofield Company. After Frank’s death in 1947, his wife Berthe Schofield successfully led the company until 1965, when it was sold to Oscar Caplan & Sons and then acquired by The Stieff Company in 1967. Schofield patterns remained in production under Stieff until the late 1970s, leaving behind a legacy of elegant, Southern-influenced silverwork that remains prized by collectors today.
