American Grand Army of Republic Bronze Pin (GAR). 4 different parts, including an eagle, a GAR Representative Milwaukee part, 57th Natl Encampment 1923, and a James W Willett Commander in Chief GAR. Back of eagle has the pin.
The GAR was the largest of all Union Army veterans' organizations, the most powerful single-issue political lobby of the late 19th century, securing massive pensions for veterans and helping to elect five postwar presidents from its own membership. They provided support for veterans-organization of soldier reunions, political clout for federal and state Soldiers Homes for invalids, and advocacy for a Memorial Day.
