This book is titled ""American Duck, Goose, & Brant Shooting" by Dr. William Bruette, who was editor of Forest and Stream, an American magazine which featured hunting, fishing, and other outdoor activities in the U.S. The magazine was founded in August 1873 and canceled in 1930, and the book here was illustrated with color and black- and-white line drawings by Clement B. Davis and published in New York City by G. Howard Watt in 1929. It is a first edition because the 1929 dates on the title page and copyright page match and there are no other printings listed, although it may be a first edition, second state, because the first state apparently has an errata page, and this copy does not. The book has black lettering on the spine and gilt lettering with a gilt-decorated image of waterfowl on the front cover. There are blank endpapers, the owner's name "Andrew Hepburn" inscribed on the front flyleaf, a half-title, a colored frontis of a male and female Wood Duck, the title page, four pages of Contents, a note by the illustrator, a two-page list of Color Plates (arranged alphabetically), then one page showing the illustrations in the text, a two-page Acknowledgment by Dr. Bruette, and 415 pages of text. The book is a guide for hunters and identifies American waterfowl in six categories, and it describes different boats for hunting waterfowl, such as bay boats, sneak boats, paddle boats, and sink boxes and has line drawings to show what the boats looked like, in case you wanted to build your own boat; it also describes how to set up blinds, use decoys, and has information on guns, ammunition, and shooting techniques, and Bruette also wrote books on grouse shooting, dogs, and trout fishing in the Catskills, so he was an all-around outdoorsman. The book is 8vo. and measures 9 1/4 x 6 1/4 in. wide, with a tight binding and clean pages and text, the plates are bright and clean, with light rubbing and spots or marks on a faded spine, small nicks on the edges of the Contents pages, two tips turned in, and a detailed guide for hunters by the editor of Forest and Stream.
