Allison Lefcort was born May 14th, 1975 in Boca Raton, Florida. She is the daughter of Robert and Ronni Lefcort, a Yale University alumni and a visual artist. She attended Spanish River High School, where her style of painting finally coalesced around the “Pop Art” genre after completing an image of the band The Doors. At seventeen she had her first professional exhibition at the Greenwich Village Art Gallery. After graduating high school in 1993 Lefcort attended Skidmore College and majored in art while successfully selling her original pieces, but she decided to drop out when an art teacher told her and her classmates to forget all they knew about art so that she could be taught properly. She attended the New York Art Expo and her work immediately found a market, and rather than returning to college she moved to the city with her mother, who became her publicist and manager. In addition to selling many pieces, she donated works and funds frequently to Seeds of Peace, GLAAD and United Cerebral Palsy among other charities, and teaches children’s art classes. Her primary subjects were first American rock stars, singers, and political figures, and eventually her largest market was focused on Disney characters commissioned by the company to mark the 75th anniversary of Mickey Mouse, with her style heavily influenced by Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. Her work is often in a monochromatic scheme of black, white and grey in the foreground, with bright bold colors in the background. She uses acrylic paints exclusively on paper, wood, or canvas to create her pop art portraits. Prints of her works are widely available, with original pieces increasingly commanding higher prices at auctions and through galleries along the East Coast.
