Alexander Raymond Katz (1890-1974) Hungarian/American, Tempera On Board. Signed on right. Stylized black and white. Central focus is a hand holding a small tree. Top is creating an optical illusion known as the "Droste effect," where the image repeats itself in small versions. Figures holding a spear and shields along the bottom. Framed. 

Condition: Spots on mat along the top. Signs of water damage on verso.

Alexander Sandor Raymond Katz (1890-1974) was active/lived in Illinois, New York, Florida / Hungary.  Alexander Katz is known for Mural and easel painting, Jewish narrative, illustration. Alexander Raymond Katz was a modernist artist working in painting and illustration. Katz is known for his versatility and his extensive use of contemporary styles, and his many works depicting themes from Chicago, his longtime home.
