Born in Canton, New York, Frederic Remington (1861–1909) became one of the nation's most celebrated artists, capturing public imagination through his dramatic illustrations and paintings of cavalrymen, Native Americans, and frontier life. Moving into sculpture in the 1890s, he refined the lost-wax casting process alongside Roman Bronze Works to produce iconic bronzes, including The Broncho Buster and The Stampede. Before his sudden death at age 48, Remington produced over 5,000 works that permanently defined the visual mythology of the American West.
