Artist Biography:
Francesco Goya (1746–1828) was a Spanish painter and printmaker, widely regarded as one of the most important artists of his time. Born in Fuendetodos, Spain, he rose to prominence as a court painter for the Spanish monarchy, capturing royal portraits and historical scenes with striking realism and psychological depth. Goya's work evolved from the decorative and formal to a darker, more personal style, influenced by the turmoil of war and his own deteriorating health. His later works, including the haunting "Black Paintings," are considered precursors to modernist movements. Goya's artistry bridged the Old Masters and the modern era, leaving a lasting impact on European art.
