Fernando Botero (1932-2023) was a Colombian painter and sculptor celebrated for his instantly recognizable style, Boterismo, featuring exaggerated, voluminous figures, animals, and objects. Born in Medellín, he studied in Bogotá and Europe, absorbing influences from both Renaissance and modern masters. His signature aesthetic blends sensuality and satire, using inflated proportions to address serious themes such as political violence, religion, and power. Botero gained international acclaim with global exhibitions, and his monumental bronze sculptures are installed in public spaces worldwide.
