Charles Quaedvlieg (1823–1874) was a Dutch painter associated with the Düsseldorf School, known for his genre scenes, landscapes, historical subjects, and animal paintings. Born in Valkenburg in the Netherlands, he showed artistic talent early and studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp before pursuing a career across Europe. Much of his professional life was spent in Rome, where he became part of an international community of artists and gained recognition for paintings depicting the Italian countryside, Roman life, and historical events, including scenes related to the unification of Italy. Quaedvlieg received patronage from notable figures such as Princess Marianne of Orange-Nassau and was honored by Pope Pius IX for his work. Despite periods of success and acclaim, his later years were marked by financial difficulty, and he died in Rome in 1874
