Bartolomé Esteban Murillo (1617–1682) was a prominent Spanish Baroque painter from Seville, celebrated for his luminous religious works and tender depictions of everyday life. Trained in the Sevillian school, he developed a soft, graceful style marked by warm colors, gentle lighting, and emotional depth, which made his paintings of the Virgin Mary, Christ, and saints especially beloved. Alongside his sacred art, Murillo also painted genre scenes featuring children and street life with remarkable humanity and realism. His influence extended well beyond Spain, shaping religious painting throughout Europe and making him one of the most admired artists of the Spanish Golden Age.
