Artist Biography:
Auguste Moreau (1834-1917) was a French sculptor celebrated for his graceful and detailed sculptures, often depicting figures from mythology, allegory, and everyday life. Born into a family of renowned artists, he was the son of sculptor and painter Jean-Baptiste Moreau and the brother of sculptors Hippolyte and Mathurin Moreau. Auguste’s works, characterized by their fluidity, elegance, and intricate detail, became highly sought after during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He frequently exhibited at the Paris Salon, where his pieces received critical acclaim and numerous awards. Moreau’s artistry contributed significantly to the decorative arts, and his sculptures remain appreciated for their beauty and craftsmanship.
