African Dance Drum from Early 1900's

An African dance drum from the Central African Republic. The drum is carved from one piece of wood and the drum skin is made from animal hide stretched taut over the sides and held in place with strappings from the animal hide. A note on the bottom reads “Drum Dance ... I led the teacher to Christ and she gave it to me.” There is light tape residue on the drum skin and wear is commensurate with age and use. The drum is 13 1/2 in. high and has a 15 in. diameter. From the Dale Baker collection.
