Brutalist sculptures, much like the architectural movement from which they draw their name, are characterized by their raw, rugged forms and unapologetically material-focused construction. Often made from concrete, metal, or rough-hewn stone, these sculptures emphasize mass, geometry, and surface texture over ornamental detail, creating powerful, sometimes austere statements of form and presence. Emerging in the mid-20th century alongside post-war modernism, brutalist art sought to confront viewers with the primal weight of structure—sometimes abstract and monumental, sometimes sharply expressive.
