This lot consists of four books by A.A. Milne, who wrote the Winnie-the-Pooh series of books for children. The titles are a) The Christopher Robin Birthday Book, a first edition published in London by Methuen in 1930, with gilt lettering on the spine and gilt lettering and a gilt image of Christopher Robin on the front cover, “First Published in 1930” stated on the copyright page, and 215 pages of text, b) Two People, a first edition published in New York by E P Dutton in 1931, with 313 pages of text, and the book is a first edition because it has just a single date on the title page and no other dates listed, c) The Holiday Round, published in New York by E. P. Dutton and printed by Jarrold and Sons in Norwich, with 249 pages of text, and d ) When We Were Very Young, published in 1962 by McClelland and Stewart, with a green spine and green boards, decorations by Ernest H. Shepard, there are two pages of Contents, 102 pages of text, and the first edition was published in 1925, so this is a later printing. The Christopher Robin Birthday Book measures 6 1/2 x 4 7/8 inches wide and is in very good condition, with a tight binding and clean pages and text. The lettering on the spine has faded a bit and the bookplate on the front paste-down and the front flyleaf have faint browning, and a very attractive copy of this first edition.
Two People measures 7 3/4 x 5 1/2 inches wide and has clean pages and text, with light bumps on the spine, light wear at the tips, it’s missing a front endpaper and has shadows on the front paste-down, and there’s a chip on the rear flyleaf.
The Holiday Round measures 6 7/8 x 4 3/8 inches wide, with a tight ending and clean pages and text, a faint bow and light bumps on the heel and crown, faded lettering on the spine and front cover, wear on the bookplate, A A Milne’s full name is inked in on the title page, and paper remnants on the rear flyleaf.
When We Were Very Young measures 7 5/8 x 5 1/8 inches wide and is in great condition, with a tight binding and clean pages and text, and just the faintest of rubbing at the heel and crown.
