Qi Baishi (1864-1957) was a renowned Chinese painter and calligrapher, celebrated for his expressive and vibrant depictions of nature, including flowers, insects, birds, and landscapes. Born in rural Hunan, Qi initially worked as a carpenter before turning to art, studying traditional Chinese painting techniques while developing his own distinctive style. His works, often imbued with simplicity and spontaneity, combine elements of traditional Chinese brushwork with a more personal, emotive approach. Qi's use of bold brushstrokes and vivid colors gained him widespread recognition, and he is regarded as one of the most important Chinese artists of the 20th century. His legacy endures, with his works held in prominent museums worldwide.
