Condition: Good.
Size: 3 1/4 x 2 3/4 in.
A lapel pin, also known as an enamel pin, is a small pin worn on clothing, often on the lapel of a jacket, attached to a bag, or displayed on a piece of fabric. They are most commonly attached with either a safety pin or a specifically shaped catch, such as a butterfly clutch, to fit in a ready-made hole, and can sometimes double as cufflinks for this reason. Lapel pins can be ornamental or can indicate the wearer’s affiliation with a cause or an organization, such as a fraternal or religious order. They are the descendants of the popular boutonnières (floral decorations) worn in buttonholes in the past, as well as adjacent to the military medals accumulated by soldiers and civilians alike. Lapel pins are frequently used as symbols of achievement and belonging in different organizations, and can also be the focus of collectors for their rarity or significance. One of the most recent developments in this field is the phenomenon of Disney pin trading, which took unofficial adornment of staff and cast members to a worldwide activity and significant market. Politicians in the United States often wear American flag lapel pins, especially since the September 11th Attacks. Most pins are made in China, specifically in and around Kunshan, a satellite city in the greater Suzhou region that has made their inexpensive labor so accessible that non-Chinese production of label pins are few and far between. However, they are sold all over the world, now one of the most ubiquitous accessories that humanity has ever produced.
Good.
