Founded in Buffalo, New York, in 1866, the business that would become Kittinger Furniture originally started as a paper company operated by father and son Oliver and George Colie. After transitioning into upholstered furniture, the company was sold to Irvine J. Kittinger Sr. and his brother, who formally renamed it the Kittinger Furniture Company in 1913. By 1929 the brand had surpassed $1 million in sales, allowing the brothers to open nationwide showrooms featuring high-end reproductions of historic 18th Century styles. Kittinger secured a major milestone in 1937 when it received an exclusive license to reproduce custom antique furniture for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, later expanding into notable lines like the Hollywood Regency style Mandarin collection. Despite enduring multiple ownership changes and a brief closure between the mid 1970s and 90s, the brand was revived in 1996 by former master cabinetmaker Raymond Bialkowski and his wife. Today Kittinger remains a respected American manufacturer of handcrafted furniture, famous for outfitting key spaces in the White House, including the Cabinet and Roosevelt Rooms.
