William Soutter and Sons was first established in 1760 in Hockley, Birmingham, England as Hicks & Soutter, producing tea sets in brass and copper until Soutter bought out his partner in 1816 and began to expand their offerings exponentially. Braziers, plumbing equipment, and eventually hollowware and artistic metal objects followed for the next century, and it was incorporated as a limited company in 1896. They were some of the first brass founders in England to shift their focus from gas fittings to electric, but overexpansion and supply issues brought on by World War I led to a difficult period in the 1920s, culminating in their closure in 1929 shortly after the beginning of the Great Depression.
