The Chantilly pattern was first designed and patented in 1895. Founded in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1831 by Jabez Gorham and Henry Webster, Gorham Manufacturing Company became one of America's leading silvermakers, transitioning from coin silver to sterling silver in 1868 and producing a wide range of flatware and hollowware. Its hallmark evolved over time—from the iconic lion, anchor, and "G" introduced in 1848 to various date symbols used through 1933—and the company remained a prominent name in American silver until its closure following the 2009 bankruptcy of Lenox Holdings.
