(5) Hardstone Fruits. Lot comprised of five polished hardstone fruits and small bonsai tree with metal leaves.

Hardstone fruits are finely crafted decorative objects carved from semi-precious stones such as jade, agate, quartz, carnelian, and serpentine, designed to replicate the appearance of real fruit with remarkable realism and elegance. Popularized in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, particularly in China and later in the West, these lifelike pieces often featured intricate detailing—veins on leaves, textured rinds, and subtle color gradients—that showcased the artisan’s skill and the natural beauty of the stone. In Chinese culture, fruit motifs also carry symbolic meanings, such as peaches for longevity or pomegranates for fertility, adding layers of auspicious significance. Hardstone fruits were often displayed in bowls or as part of scholar’s desk collections, blending natural beauty with artistic refinement, and remain prized today by collectors for their craftsmanship and decorative charm.
