George Angell was a prominent mid-19th Century London silversmith hailing from the renowned Angell family of silver and jewelry manufacturers. He entered his first maker’s mark alongside his brother John Charles Angell in 1840, later obtaining his freedom by patrimony in 1842. Operating under his own name and as George Angell & Co., he produced exceptional Victorian sterling silver hollowware, flatware, and presentation pieces characterized by ornate chased and engraved details right up until his death in 1884, when his firm was taken over by George Frederick Courthope.
