Daum is a French crystal studio, founded in Nancy in 1878 by Jean Daum, whose sons oversaw its growth during the burgeoning Art Nouveau period. During this time, Daum glass, often winning prestigious awards, became known for its elaborate acid etching, carving, and enameling in naturalistic forms. Following Émile Gallé's death in 1904, the Daum brothers became leaders in decorative glass, reviving and perfecting the ancient Egyptian technique of pâte de verre (glass paste). Today, Daum is one of the only crystal manufacturers still employing the demanding pâte de verre process for their handmade art glass and crystal sculptures.
