Paye & Baker Manufacturing Company began in Providence, Rhode Island in 1901 when Charles Paye inherited his father’s works and assets from the dissolution of Simmons & Paye. He joined with another silversmith named Frank Baker and remained at his father’s old facility until 1903, when the two relocated to a larger factory in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. Their maker’s mark was particularly beloved by collectors, a “P&B” in heart shaped cartouches. They focused first on making sterling flatware, hollowware, novelty items, and souvenir spoons, but around 1920 they began to struggle competing with other, larger silvermakers in the area and ceased flatware production, continuing as jewelry manufacturers until they declared bankruptcy in 1961.
