(4) 19th C Tintype Portraits in Union Cases. This collection of vintage tintype portraits preserved in union cases offer a nostalgic glimpse into the American past. A tintype is a type of photographic process invented in the 1850s. It involves coating a thin sheet of metal with a light-sensitive emulsion, exposing it to an image, and then developing it with chemicals. The resulting image is a direct positive, meaning it doesn't require printing. A union case is a book-like enclosure made from a thermoplastic molding process to house daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, and tintypes. Some wear commensurate with age. The cover of the final book is divided. AS IS.
