Mark Hobson (b. 1953) Canadian, Prints. The first is titled “Grey Day At South Beach”. It features a scene on the beach, the shore is covered in driftwood and rocks as the waves churn in the background. Signed on plate and dated 1999. The second is titled: “The Anchorage”. Depicts a quiet day in the mountainside lake, a boat rests on the glassy water. Signed on plate and dated 1999. The third is titled: “Break In The Storm”. Rays of sunlight pierce the clouds and shine down upon the tumultuous waters which crash against the rocks of the cliff side. Signed on plate and dated 1999. Mark Hobson, born in 1953, has been painting scenes of British Columbia’s west since he first visited Long Beach as a teenager. The route to becoming a full-time artist, however, has not been particularly direct. As a child he drew animals and the natural world almost daily, subsequently teaching himself skills, in the use of watercolors and acrylics. But as he followed a path towards a biology degree, the opportunity to devote time to art faded and was almost shelved completely during the nine years he taught Sciences at Shawnigan Lake School near Duncan, B.C. Ideas for canvases kept smoldering in the background, and in 1983 he decided to break from teaching to finally make more time for painting. A seasonal job as a park interpreter directing the Wickaninnish Center at Pacific Rim National Park provided winter months free for creativity and was the perfect transition towards painting full-time. Mark now makes his home in Tofino on Vancouver Island surrounded by the rugged beauty and drama of the outer coast so frequently depicted in his work. Overall Size: 12 1/2 x 10 1/2 in. Sight SIze: 6 3/4 x 4 3/4 in. Frame Thickness: 3/4 in. #8 #5271 Location Box 3
