Villa Malaparte is a striking modernist house built in the late 1930s on a secluded cliffside in Capri, Italy. Designed by Italian writer Curzio Malaparte in collaboration with architect Adalberto Libera, the villa is known for its bold, red-brick exterior, geometric design, and dramatic setting overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Its most distinctive feature is the massive, trapezoidal staircase leading to a rooftop terrace, creating a seamless connection between architecture and nature. The villa gained international fame for its appearance in Jean-Luc Godard’s 1963 film Contempt and remains an iconic example of 20th-century Italian architecture.
