Taguhi Tegi Barsegian was born in Yerevan, Armenia when it was still part of the Soviet Union. She trained early on to become a ballet dancer, but found her true calling in painting. She graduated with honors at the Terlemezian School of Arts in 1983 and Yerevan Academy of Arts in 1988. She then moved to Kharkiv, Ukraine, where she honed her skills. She moved to the United States in 2006. She studied medieval art, Renaissance masters, and contemporary post-impressionists and surrealists to develop her style. Her work often utilizes a geometric framework to depict her synthesized scenes of everyday life, as well as elements from dreams and fantasies. Her work is in private collections throughout the US, Canada, Russia, Ukraine, and Armenia, and her most recent solo exhibition was at the MORA Museum of Russian Art in New Jersey in 2015. Her newest works have shifted from more surreal elements and darker tones to a softer, light-inspired palette after relocating to Sarasota, Florida, where she lives and works full-time.
