Founded in 1898 in Småland, Sweden, Orrefors transitioned from utilitarian bottle production to world-class art glass following its purchase by Consul Johan Ekman in 1913. The glassworks gained global renown after showcasing its clean, liquid-like aesthetics at the 1925 Paris Exhibition, pioneered through innovative techniques like Ariel, which trapped air patterns within glass walls. Although the historic factory closed in 2012, its artistic legacy lives on through highly collectible pieces and the site's transformation into the Per Ekström Museum.
Founded in 1903 in Corning, New York, by Frederick Carder and Thomas G. Hawkes, Steuben Glass became a premier American art glass manufacturer renowned for its colorless, highly polished lead crystal. After its acquisition by Corning Glass Works in 1918, the firm produced celebrated luxury designs for nearly a century before economic challenges led to its closure in 2011. Corning Incorporated subsequently reacquired the iconic brand, partnering with the Corning Museum of Glass in 2014 to continue reproducing classic Steuben designs using modern formulas.
