Sheets-R.-S.-Co. was a maker of silver plated items that originated in 1873 as Racine Silver Plate Company. in Racine, Wisconsin. The plant burned to the ground in 1882, and the surviving equipment and staff were relocated to Rockford, Illinois as the Rockford Silver Plate Company. In 1925 Raymond Sheets bought the company and changed the name to Sheets-Rockford Silver Plate Company, with the abbreviated and hyphenated name the most commonly used on all the pieces from then on. He also discontinued flatware production and specialized in hollowware, reorganizing the plant considerably. During the Great Depression the company diminished in staff and stature until all they offered was replating. In the late 1930s the stock and remaining assets were purchased by Simeon L. and George H. Rogers, two brothers who used the logo on their flatware as a separate line from their own, and added the date 1875 to much of the pieces, having misread the badly maintained company records that survived from when it was known as the Racine Silver Plate Company. The company logo continued to appear until they were absorbed into Oneida Limited in the mid 1950s.
