(2) Unframed paintings by Ricardo Maya. Both are oil on canvas board. One is signed on lower right, one signed on lower left. Ricardo Maya is a Cuban artist (born 1969). He works with acrylic and watercolor and is known for his strong, contrasting lines as well as his vibrant and intense palette. He lives and works in Granada, Nicaragua. In 1988 he entered the Escuela de Educación Artística del Instituto Superior Pedagógico “Enrique José Varona” in Havana and in 1993 he graduated in Art Education at the Instituto Superior Pedagógico “Felix Varela in Villa Clara. Although the first stage of his work is marked by the maelstrom of Cuban rebellious art of the 90's, after his migration to Nicaragua, his work becomes intimate, captive and solitary. Series: Thousand faces of women. This is perhaps the best known series of his work. Inspired by Picasso's Woman in Front of the Mirror, the sad woman gave way to the strong and ancestral diva, the evolution of these portraits and the incorporation of pop elements and contemporary culture are special because they reflect part of the artist's personal life.
